Frequently in a regatta one must maneuver not only against the
competition but also into steep waves and with maximum sail, or under spinnaker
with high sustained winds, all this for many hours or even days during a long
distance race. In one year of racing the yacht will have been stressed and
subjected to extreme loads over a lengthy period of time, forces that cruising
yachts will never experience in their whole existence.
All the best projections, technical solutions, the hardware that has guaranteed
our results in these European regattas and has managed all conditions of wind
and sea are found in our Dufour performance series.
The hull lines, a product of Umberto Felci are of the latest IMS/IRC generation. The sail plan is based on a large mainsail and small overlapping Genoa in order to reduce crew size. The ergonomic placement of deck hardware is geared towards both cruising and racing, the recessed traveler on the cockpit floor allow for easy access to the opening transom. In racing mode, the fine-tune end boom sheeting makes finite trimming of the main a simple process. The control lines lead to the helm and define a clean and unobstructed deck without clutter and subsequent danger for the crew.

Some Notes:
The Interiors on the entire range are of Moabi Mahogany, all manufactured in our own wood shop and built in each boat, no pan liners or "pre-fab" here. All trim and components are solid wood. There is no plastic film laminate on any Dufour Yacht.
The Hull deck joint is 6" inboard on a flange. . . wider joint bow to stern - more stress bearing capability. Vacuum injection moulding or resin transfer moulding is used for the decks. Dufour Yachts applies vacuum construction techniques. By vacuum bagging fiberglass and PVC foam we ensure absolute rigidity and strength for minimal weight. All Dufours have a grid stringer system that is reinforced with Twaron, similar to Kevlar in the keel area. The full structure is laminated on to the outer hull so as to ensure a perfect spread of the load on the entire hull structure.
The Dufour yard celebrated 40 years at the 2004-2005 season. That 's 40 years of passion and know how in the yacht building industry and an engineering spirit that has not been altered with in time. As a matter of fact, it's quite the contrary. As we move into the 2009 season, we are proud to introduce the Performance 34, the 405GL, The 485 and 525 in North America.
